How to Enter
To successfully secure a role as a Piping Inspector, it’s recommended to complete a Bachelor of Engineering degree specialising in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Alternatively, significant industry experience may make up for the lack of industry qualifications in this field.
Typical Responsibilities
The typical responsibilities of a Piping Inspector can include any of the following:
- Supervising pipe installations to ensure correct measures, methods and materials are used
- Conducting pipe vibration tests
- Conducting thermal analysis of piping systems
- Conducting piping stress tests
- Writing reports on the suitability and sustainability of piping systems
- Ensuring all piping systems adhere to regulatory and Health & Safety standards
Progression
Many Piping Inspectors often take their careers forward by specialising in pipe design and become a Piping Designer. With further training, they can then move towards other areas of Engineering Design, such as a CAD Designer. Alternatively, they can also move into other areas of engineering, such as Mechanical or Civil.

80K+ per annum (NZD)
